The Circus Diaries

Circus Thoughts From Circus People

Katharine Kavanagh

A love of physical performance took me into a career as a performer and theatre-maker. A door to the hidden world of circus was opened for me when I toured as a volunteer with Britain's premiere international circus export NoFit State for two summers. In 2013 I was selected for the EU 'Unpack The Arts' residency, to visit and report on a contemporary circus festival as a reviewer and journalist. The programme's aim: 'To create a community within the press who are aware of circus' vocabulary, history and influences, and who are able to produce literature and reviews of shows that encompass critical discourses on new trends and recognise the specific nature of circus dramaturgy'. This website charts my developing relationship with all things circus, and will hopefully provide a useful resource for those who follow on the path to greater critical awareness.
